As more and more devices were getting Android KitKat 4.4.3 over the last few weeks, many have wondered what LG is up to. Granted, only the flagship smartphones and tablets are getting the update, but surely the LG G Pad 8.3 qualifies in the regard, does it not? Well, it seems that the wait was worth it, and while the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition won’t be getting Android KitKat 4.4.3, it will be getting the newer KitKat 4.4.4 instead.
LG has decided to skip KitKat 4.4.3 altogether and aim for the newer version for its LG G Pad 8.3. Keep in mind, this update is only available for the Google Play edition of the Pad. Did we say available? Yes we did. The update is already beginning to roll out as we speak, and LG G Pad 8.3 owners will be getting it in the next few days, depending on carrier and region. The initial Android KitKat 4.4.3 update was aimed at fixing some issues with the 4.4.2 version, mainly regarding connectivity and security flaws in OpenSSL. However, as we’ve seen on some of the Google Nexus devices, the 4.4.3 update did more harm than good in many cases, and thus, 4.4.4 swoops in to save the day.
By skipping Android KitKat 4.4.3 altogether, LG has ensured that LG G Pad 8.3 users will not be bothered by various bugs and unresolved issues, instead providing a more stable 4.4.4 version. The update will take some days to roll out however, but if you’re anxious to get your G Pad 8.3 up to date, there’s a way to speed things up. The guys at AndroidPolice were kind enough to upload the new OTA files, and provide instructions on how to install it manually. Thus, if you’re impatient, you can do it yourself as of now. Otherwise, just wait for the official update from LG to roll out for your device.
