Toshiba geared-up its Satellite P5Ot with a 4K screen

Toshiba is known for its TVs and probably, PC monitors, but unfortunately in areas such as laptops, the company has much to learn from the giants of the market. Toshiba’s Satellite P50t didn’t make a name for itself, even if it has great features and, last but not least, a rather pleasant appearance. Comparing the not-so-famous laptop with some that have disappeared from the shelves the day they were released, the similarity regarding both hardware and software is noticeable. So there’s practically no reason this laptop lacks success, perhaps only the fact that Toshiba is not as recognized as Dell or Apple.

Surprisingly enough, Toshiba has already released its Satellite P50t geared up with a 4K screen, thus cutting off Lenovo, recognized as a giant in the laptop market. Lenovo has only announced its Y50 laptop, said to feature a 4K screen, while Toshiba already released the 15,6-inch Satellite. Toshiba made different versions of the Satellite P50 series, but only one version features the 4K screen. Along with a screen upgrade, came along an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, a 1TB HDD and an AMD R9 M265X GPU. Regarding its appearance, well, it’s known Toshiba lacks imagination, because almost all its laptops follow the same pattern. In conclusion, the Satellite P50t is not the slimmest nor the most fashionable laptop. In Toshiba “language” a good laptop is simply good, appearance is not that important, and we tend agree, but let’s be honest, the first thing you see in a laptop is its appearance so the chances of choosing a slimmer, smoother device are much bigger.

The Satellite P50t has nonetheless a premium look, thanks to its aluminum body and black keyboard. Regarding its design, we can see Toshiba’s fingerprint all over the device. The rounded bottom corners are mirrored by the upper corners, and the thick body makes it easy to grip and carry around with no problem, in either a backpack or in one arm. As we’ve mentioned before, design is not one of Toshiba’s concerns, and we can see that clearly if we take a look at previous models. As new as they may be, the design is never too different from the previous cheaper models, and considering we’re in an era that demands both power and looks, Toshiba might not stand a chance against its possible rivals in this area.

Leaving aside design issues, the 15,6-inch Satellite has amazed everyone with its high native resolution, 3840×2160, feature that no other laptop has, until now. Even if there are laptops featuring great screens, for instance the Retina MacBook Pros, which has a 2880×1800 screen resolution, it was never expected from Toshiba to gear up its laptop with an amazing screen such as this. Chances for this laptop to surpass rivals such as the MacBook are pretty low, even if it has some better specs and a better price. The Satellite cost $1,599 but considering there are devices with features just as good yet more expensive, costing with at least $200 more, the price jumped at $1,799, crashing many hopes and dreams, then it dropped again to 1,599. Perhaps no one wanted to spend that amount of money on something less advertised, for instance the MacBook Pro costs $2,599 and it’s still a most-wanted. Nonetheless, choosing a Toshiba Satellite P50t over a MacBook won’t necessarily be a bad decision, because the laptop seems to be a great competitor to its rivals, even is it’s less known. And considering the 4K screen no other laptop has until now, you’ll be the proud owner of an outstanding device.
