AC/DC’s guitarist Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia

Malcolm Young, guitarist and one of the founders of the well-known band AC/DC, has been diagnosed with dementia and has been admitted to a nursing home in Sydney, Australia to receive full-time care. The musician, aged 61, had to retire from the band due to health conditions just before announcing they will be releasing a new album ‘Rock or Bust’ in November. Malcolm Young, born in Scotland and raised in Australia, is best known as a founder, guitarist, backing vocalist and also song writer for the hard rock band AC/DC. He has been a part of the group since 1973, with a short absence in 1988, until 2014. One of the band’s greatest achievements is that Young and the other members were included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

The musician has two children, Cara and Ross and he’s married to Linda Young. Malcolm left AC/DC in April 2014 after having a stroke and according to Sydney Morning Herald, he had to retire from the band due to dementia.
Despite Malcolm’s health issues, front man Brian Johnson reported that AC/DC are not retiring. They just finished the work on their new album ‘Rock or Bust’ with two new guitarists, Stevie Young, nephew of Malcolm Young and Angus Young as lead guitarist.

Johnson mentioned that they had a bit of a hard time recording the new piece without Malcolm, thinking that he is not well but they are really hoping he’ll get well soon and hopefully he’ll rejoin. AC/DC will embark on a world tour to promote their new album, the 15th of their musical career and also to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a group. The new album is expected to be release November 28 and is following up AC/DC’s successful album ‘Black Ice’ from 6 years ago. The fans should expect to see them perform next summer at Wembley Stadium and Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
