The Equalizer, a new thriller starring Denzel Washington, is now out

The Equalizer is Antoine Fuqua’s new movie, starring Denzel Washington. It’s an action thriller movie and is based on the television series with the same name. Other actors starring in the movie are Marton Csokas, Chloe Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Haley Bennett, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. The movie topped the box office with $12.6 million plus from 3.236 theatres and it could even hit $37 million, according to Hollywood Reporter. This would mark Washington’s second-best opening in the box office after ‘Safe House’ in 2012 and American gangster in 2007.

Denzel Washington is portraying McCall, an intelligent officer who has now retired, wishing to leave the Special Forces behind him and start a new peaceful life. This is until he meets Teri, played by Chloe Grace Moretz, a young girl under the power of a group of violent Russian gangsters. This is the moment when McCall reawakens from his idly life and decides to help the girl, out of justice. The filming for the movie began in June 2013 in locations such as Salisbury, Hamilton, Chelsea, Havervill and Boston, Massachusetts. The movie trailer was released May 24 and another official trailer came out June 12. Along with the trailer premiered the song ‘Guts over fear’, by rapper Eminem featuring Sia. ‘The Equalizer’ had its premiere at 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 and it was released by Sony in theaters September 26, 2014. The movie received mixed reviews, some of the critics finding the movie more violent than significant. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie scored 58% out of 100% with a rating of 5.6/10. Good news for the fans is that Sony Pictures announced that there will be a sequel to the film coming up.
