Bill Gates, co-founder of the IT giant Microsoft, has spent “substantially” more time at Microsoft earlier this year to assist current CEO Satya Nadella, apparently in “dramatically improving” the company’s flagship Microsoft Office. In an interview cited by The Verge, Gates has declared that Microsoft should consider improving this product line its top priority.
One of the most likely improvements made to Microsoft’s flagship productivity suite is a version optimized for touch screen devices running Windows. Microsoft has teased such an upgrade, currently testing it. Although there is no official word about the debut of this new product, it is most likely to be released sometime next year. There are other products currently under development at the company – Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Office for Mac, as well as seriously working on its new website builder tool called Sway.
In the interview with Bloomberg TV Gates has also mentioned Apple Pay. He noted that Microsoft will most likely do as good as its competitor, if not better, with a similar technology. He has admitted not to work at a competing technology, though, despite Microsoft apparently having a “really good vision” on the matter. “Apple will help make sure it gets to critical mass for all of the devices”, he noted, considering that Apple’s solution is as good as it gets.

Since leaving his position at Microsoft, Bill Gates dedicates most of his time to his charitable activities. Still he is among the highest earning people of the world – according to the Bloomber Billionaires Index, his fortune increased from $15.8 billion to $78.5 billion. He owns stakes in various businesses, including Corbis Corporation and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Since stepping down as Chairman of Microsoft, he has become a Technology Advisor besides current CEO Satya Nadella.
