Nominees for the 2015 Grammy awards are set to be announced by the Recording Academy on Friday, December 5, except for the most wanted one of them all, the Album of the Year. The nominees for the top prize will be revealed through the debut edition of the academy’s TV special, “A Very Grammy Christmas” at the same date on CBS, featuring performances by Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Tim McGraw, according to a press release published today on Grammy.com.
The TV special will be in the traditional spirit of Christmas, with the artists sharing their favorite holiday memories, and singing holiday songs besides several current pop hits during the show. The above list is not complete – the Academy will announce further performers at a later time. The Christmas special will be recorded at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on November 18th. As part of the show the announcement of the nominations for the Album of the Year category – all other nominations will be revealed in the morning.
The Album of the Year award is similar to an Oscar for musical performers. “If you ask any musical artist what their best Christmas gift would be, maybe eight out of ten would say a Grammy nomination”, the special’s producer Ken Ehrlich said. The Album of the Year is the final, most prestigious award category at the Grammys since their inaugural edition in 1959. Among the winners of this distinction we can find artists like Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson,. Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and many others. Last year’s Album of the Year award was won by Daft Punk, the French electronic music duo, for their album titled “Random Access Memories”. The upcoming edition of the awards is the 57th one, and will be aired live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles of February 8, 2015.
