Emma Watson Wins Britannia Award

Emma Watson, the assured feminist on the contemporary cinematographic scene, was one of the greatest surprises at the BAFTA Awards ceremony this year, held on Thursday evening (30 October). The glamorous event took place at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California. The effort and dedication of the 23 year old actress was rewarded with the The Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.

The Harry Potter consecrated little girl proves to have grown into a strong, vertical and positive young woman. At the gala, she has stripped of her Hogwarts uniform and refused to wear the fancy red carpet dress as well. Emma Watson wore a non-chromatic costume, built of a white top and a tight-black pair of trousers, a Jennifer Fisher golden choker and Jennifer Meyer rings and earrings. Anyway, it was not her cleverly chosen attire the one which got her the glorious award!

The speech of the young Emma Watson caused a stir among journalists due to the chosen theme. The actress dedicated her prestigious award to her dead hamster. As she herself commenced her speech, the theme choice is a morbid one, but miss Emma Watson did not dedicate her award to the dead furry animal in vain. In her opinion, the little animal is a symbol for her appreciation towards the British Film Industry, which represented not only a work place, but also the ‘’surrogate family’’ in which she grew up in order to become the daring female of nowadays.

The story goes that while filming the first part of the Harry Potter series, her hamster, Millie, was truly ill and ‘’didn’t quite make it’’, and died of a heart attack. The death of her loving animal made Emma Watson realize that she had been part of a large family of great people, in the midst of the Harry Potter crew. ’’The set decorators built a small mahogany hamster-sized coffin and it had a velvet lining [and] a silver plaque on front which had Millie’s name engraved on it.’’
