Microsoft Corporation is getting ready to launch its first Lumia smartphone that will not be marketed under the Nokia brand. The revelation will be made on the 11th of November 2014, according to a short post on the Microsoft Mobile website, with the #MoreLumia hashtag and a call for visitors to return on the 11th attached, nothing more.
The announcement came two weeks after the announcement made by the company about the re-branding of the Nokia Lumia product line to Microsoft Lumia. The company hinted the announcement of a Microsoft Lumia device in a short time – and now there are just a few days left. Judging by the picture posted on the Microsoft Mobile website, the new phone will be orange, with a front camera on its right side, and it will be as curved as many of its predecessors. The announcement – just 20 words, a picture and a hashtag – speaks of “a” Microsoft Lumia device, so we can expect only one device to be announced under the new brand at this time.
As there were no details revealed by Microsoft itself, we need to rely on rumors. Venturebeat has compiled a roundup of what there is to be known about the new device, citing a source in China: 5″ HD screen, Snapdragon 200 at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, two SIM cards, a five megapixel camera, VGA front camera, a 1900mAh battery and a range of vivid colors. These specifications suggest a low-end, affordable smartphone, running Windows Phone 8.1 (the specifications, except for the screen size, is similar to what the Nokia Lumia 620 has under its hood). The rumors also speak of the name of the device – Lumia 525 – but it could turn out to be something completely different.
Microsoft has acquired Nokia, once the biggest vendor of mobile phones, in September 2013, after a series of decisions of the company that have proven to be bad for business. The amount paid by Microsoft for the company was 5.44 billion euros (about $6.8 billion at today’s rate). Nokia was re-branded into Microsoft Mobile, but has kept the Nokia brand for its “dumbphones” and smartphones released since the acquisition. Until now…
