The weekend of 7 November 2014 was quite a crowded one in terms of movie releases, including much awaited pictures to welcome cinema lovers and the like. Day number 7 of the month, Friday, met the release of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Don Hall & Chris Williams’ Big Hero 6. The battle announced itself to be a tight one even from before its commencement. Pro.boxoffice.com draws the line as the tensed weekend closes and announces as top box office the animation Big Hero 6 with a figure of $56.2 million, which is followed closely by the Sci-Fi/ Drama Interstellar with a $50 million count. The fall of the Nolan empire is unexpected, writers report – and this is with good reason. The favorite releases are followed closely by Gone Girl with $6.1 million gross and Ouija with $6 million count.
Box Office Mojo reveals its meticulous counting and splits winnings per days, making the downfall of some titles and increase of others to be easily followed by fans. On Friday, the winnings of Interstellar are estimated to have summed $17.004.000, whereas Big Hero 6 remained on the second place with only $15.830.000. The following day, estimations prophesized Nolan’s decrease as a top box office of the weekend, with its $18.446.000 being incomparably lower than Big Hero’s $24.057.000 gross. The last day of the weekend, Sunday, kept the animation on the first place, adding to its previous gain an amount which totally got the Sci-Fi on the second position: Big Hero 6 – $16,313,000, whereas Interstellar – $14,550,000 (with a decrease of about 21,1%).
Interstellar has yet time to catch up with numbers and its director Christopher Nolan is not the one to leave his fans behind: proved with The Dark Knight (2008) and Inception (2010). Interstellar is an Adventure/ Sci-Fi production (as labeled by IMDb), an appealing PG-13 genre.
Weekend top box office, Big Hero 6, is a PG of 108 minutes and was directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams. The animation focuses on the relationship between robot Baymax and child Hiro Hamada who eventually form a band of heroes.
