Green Day completed their North American tour last year and they have been pretty quiet ever since. But it seems that the band’s front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, will continue pursuing his acting career. Green Day’s lead vocalist has previously appeared in the band’s own Broadway musical, “American Idiot”, based on their 2004 album. He was a guest star on “Nurse Jackie” and had cameos in the movies “This is 40” and “Haunted”. He is now set to appear in a new movie, called “Geezer“. According to Variety,” the movie is a musical comedy and it “centers on the mid-life crisis of a husband and father who, on his 40th birthday, decides to revisit his punk-rock past by throwing an extravagant party in the presidential suite of the Drake Hotel — where he encounters his beautiful ex-girlfriend and former bandmates who have since moved on to bigger and better things”. At this point, we don’t know if Billie Joe Armstrong is that birthday-celebrating punk or starring in another role. Variety also reports that “Geezer” will include new songs written and performed by Armstrong.
There’s no word as to exactly when “Geezer” is expected to be released but filming will apparently take place in New York City under the direction of Lee Kirk. He said: “The initial seeds for “Geezer” were planted a couple of years ago, when my son was born within weeks of my 40th birthday. Billie Joe Armstrong brings an exciting authenticity to the film. He’s a dad, he’s a musician and he’s an incredible talent.” In addition to Armstrong, the film stars Fred Armisen, Judy Greer, Selma Blair, Dallas Roberts, Chris Messina and Brian Baumgartner.
Having sold more than 75 million records worldwide, Green Day are one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time. The group was formed in 1987 and has since won five Grammy Awards. In 2010, their Broadway musical, “American Idiot”, was nominated for three Tony Awards and won two of them. Also in 2010, Green Day were ranked number 91 in the VH1 list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.
