At the beginning of the fall season, when all my favorite TV shows started being aired again, I discovered Stalker. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have never seen a TV show approaching this kind of theme. Some references to this type of people have been made on Criminal Minds, but this is the first show I see dedicated entirely to this subject matter.
The truth from my perspective is that women are not at all prepared for this kind of trouble from men. Most of us think that a bothersome ex-boyfriend is no big matter. We don’t really pay enough attention to our surroundings, the people we come in contact with and the way they sometimes react to our sudden presence in their lives.
Each episode of the TV show starts with an unsuspecting woman living her life, thinking she is safe in her home, her sanctuary from the world outside. Then all hell breaks loose when that space is brutally violated by the presence of someone that does not belong there.
Most of the times, the female character on the TV show confesses that she has been feeling watched and that she already has a suspect in mind. But most often than not, as the episode progresses, we find that the usual suspects are not always the right ones. Sometimes the stalker is a stranger, sometimes it turns out to be the person the character least suspects as being capable of such cruelty. One episode I was really surprised to find that the victim of the stalking was actually the perpetrator, and that all the evidence presented against the suspect was in reality fabricated by the supposed victim.
Another plus for this TV show is the presence of Dylan McDermott as one of the main characters. Well, it is a plus for me personally because I just love his blue eyes. The character he portrays also has some stalker characteristics, the main reason my guess is to why he can get inside the perpetrators’ heads so easily. I also love the songs played during the TV show, some of which are One Way or Another (cover) performed by Until the Ribbon Breaks, Every Breath You Take covered by Leelou, Creep cover by Michelle Branch and my favorite so far, Love Is a Battlefield covered by Wrongchilde featuring White Sea.
From what I have seen of this TV show so far, I pray that it will last more than just one season. It’s fascinating to see how people’s minds work, how they react to circumstances they cannot control. Also, it’s amazing to see women take back control over their lives once the stalker is identified. I recommend this TV show with all my heart.
