The Galaxy S5 is the current flagship from Samsung and it has received a lot of positive and negative reviews. Even though the phone is fairly recent, a new flagship is already in the making from Samsung, namely the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S5’s successor. Samsung has been on a fritz when it comes to smartphone releases this year. Since the Galaxy S6, we’ve seen the Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge, Galaxy Mega 3 and we are expecting the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. The Galaxy S6 will be the flagship of 2015 and many are looking forward to a redesigned Samsung flagship with new features and quirks.
The Galaxy S6 – dubbed Project Zero, is the flagship we expect to see released in March or April of 2015. Galaxy S6 rumors include the new project name, “zero”, which denotes the fact that Samsung is performing a complete redesign of the new flagship. The company has confirmed the “Project Zero” nickname for the Galaxy S6 and it’s the first time Samsung has used such a code name for a flagship. We’ve seen Project K and other initials pop up in the past few years, but never something the magnitude of Project Zero.
With Samsung’s new-found love for metal, demonstrated by the Galaxy Alpha inspired Galaxy A-line, we can expect a lot from the Galaxy S6 design. We suppose that if the Galaxy A and A3 will have full metal unibodies, the Galaxy S6 won’t stray far from that ideal. A metal unibody on the Galaxy S6 would sit more than well with consumers, after they demonstrated the love they have for metal and aluminium with the worldwide appreciation of the HTC One M8 and iPhone 6. The new flagship from Samsung might also try to get in on the thin phablet trend and try to be similar to the iPhone 6 Plus, but we would prefer if Samsung put its efforts into putting a bigger battery into the thing.
The Galaxy S6 price will probably be around $900 once it launches, staying true to the Samsung pricing tradition. When the Galaxy S5 came out in March this year, it was the same price, more or less, so we expect the Galaxy S6 to be just as “affordable”. Speaking of tradition, the Galaxy S6 display will certainly be a Super AMOLED one, and a 2K or 4K resolution is most likely. Samsung has already confirmed that it was working on a 4K smartphone display, so the Project Zero aka Galaxy S6 becoming the first smartphone to boast such a monstrosity would be more than likely. The flagship should also be a phablet, if we take into consideration the new interest found in phablet phones. In light of that trend, the Galaxy S6 will probably sport at least a 5.5 inch display, with zero-gap technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
Galaxy S6 leaked specs include a 64 bit Snapdragon 810 CPU with Android 5.0 Lollipop and TouchWiz on top. That’s the popular belief, but rumors say that we might be surprised and see Tizen running on the Galaxy S6 instead of Android. That is a bit unlikely, though, and would lead Samsung to a disastrous fiscal year, because Tizen just isn’t as big as the average consumer would like it to be. Tizen doesn’t have the support Android, iOS or even Windows has, so it’s unlikely to gather enough to be a selling point for the Galaxy S6.
At the same time, Samsung has also branched out even more and announced that it would be even more focused on its CPUs, so seeing an Exynos CPU on the Galaxy S6 is a possibility, too. But we are fairly sure that if so, there will be two different versions of the Galaxy S6, one with an Exynos CPU and the other with a Snapdragon one. We expect to see at least 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card on the Galaxy S6. When it comes to camera, the Galaxy S6 will surely have a 20 MP rear shooter with optical image stabilization. The selfie trend has also been expanding all around the world, so we think Samsung might want to rival the likes of the HTC Desire Eye or HTC One M8 Eye on the Asian market with a selfie-centered phone. That being said, seeing a Galaxy S6 front camera with an 8 or 13 MP sensor wouldn’t be surprising.
The usual fingerprint and hear rate sensor should also make a run for their money on the new flagship. We do expect to see IP certification and NFC, as well as a UV light sensor and multidirectional microphones. In terms of battery, the Galaxy S6 should have at least a 3400 mAH juicer, and rival with the likes of the Galaxy Note 4 and Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z4. Battery life is probably the most cherished feature on a smartphone and the company would hit the spot with a flagship that has a good battery life. My ideal Galaxy S6 would last 3 days with moderate use, have a pretty decent camera, a waterproof chassis, stock Android 5.0 Lollipop and a 64 bit Snapdragon 810 CPU. What would your Galaxy S6 look like?
While the above Galaxy S6 specs, design and price are purely rumor and supposition at the moment, they are realistic. Rumors and hints have been coming from Samsung itself, and we are sure to be surprised by the Galaxy S6. The company promised that it would present us a flagship that has been redesigned. The Galaxy S6 would refresh Samsung’s portfolio and come up with a new fan base that would not only buy the Galaxy S6 because it’s new, but keep it for years because it’s durable. We hope Samsung succeeds in that endeavor.
