Ever since Game of Thrones aired in 2011 it has become a pop culture phenomenon. It has kept growing more and more, losing no steam in the process and having no plans of doing so in the near future. George R.R Martin’s adored books have proved to be a rich source material for a TV show, but can the medieval fantasy drama hold its own on the big screen? British actor Charles Dance best known for his role as Tywin Lannister has recently shared a little bit of information regarding a possible movie based on the series. Game of Thrones is currently at its fourth season and it has been confirmed by show creators D.B Weiss and David Benioff that the fifth season will officially have flashbacks. HBO has renewed the show for another two seasons.
During an interview with the Daily Beast, Charles Dance has confirmed that his character will be returning on Game of Thrones thanks to the power of the TV flashback. This of course did not prove to be the icing on the cake as he somewhat confirmed that a Game of Thrones movie is being discussed : “There’s talk of eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don’t know which of the storylines. There’s so much to cram into the film.” This could mean a lot of things. The book series written by George R.R Martin is not finished as of yet and with another two seasons scheduled in the following two years, a movie inbetween could not be the right choice although they could take the series finale route and end the show with a feature length film. Yet it still doesn’t quite fit for Martin’s character filled universe. With so little information, speculation is galore. Of course, they could ignore the idea of ending Game of Thrones like this and opt for a prequel detailing Robert’s Rebellion or any other major war in the Game of Thrones mythos.
HBO has expanded the cast of the show with 9 more actors, most notable being Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean, Tomorrow never dies) and Oscar nominated actress Keisha Castle-Hughes. Game of Thrones is set to return for its fifth season in spring of 2015.
