The LG G3 is currently considered the best flagship of 2014. We wonder if LG could make that same performance possible once again with its flagship for 2015, the LG G4. While we haven’t heard anything official about the LG G4, rumors about the new flagship are already circulating around the internet. LG is working on a 2K and 4K smartphone display, just like Samsung and is also aiming for the Sharp Aquos Crystal bezelless look in its presentations and conferences. Based on what LG is leading on about the LG G4 and various rumors, as well as a calculated guess, here’s our rumor round up of the LG G4.
The LG G4 should be released in May or June 2015, which would be consistent with LG’s timeline for flagship releases. The company is becoming increasingly valued by customers and enterprises, so we expect the LG G4 to be the epitome of smartphone once it is launched. If you are wondering whether the LG G4 is in fact a reality, rest assured, because the company has already confirmed that they would be making even the LG G9 in a few years by filing the patents for the phones.
If we are to examine how the company prices its flagships, mostly based on the LG G3, we can speculate on the price of the LG G4. If the company keeps its reasonable pricing, we should be able to buy the LG G4 without a contract for around $650 – $700. That would be an appropriate and competitive price, in our minds. Other flagships like the HTC One M8 and Oppo Find 7 are about at the same price point. Others like the iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Sony Xperia Z3 were well over the $700 mark at their launch. Their successors, like the HTC One M9 should be around the same price when they launch. Others like the Galaxy S6, iPhone 6 and Xperia Z4 should also remain above the $700 mark when they are released next year. That would put the LG G4 dead in the middle, which is a good place to be at for a smartphone or a phablet.
Rumors about a sapphire crystal screen on the LG G4 have been circulating around the internet and that might change pricing a bit. While these are just rumors, we would honestly like to see a sapphire crystal screen on the new flagship, even though Corning’s new Gorilla Glass 4 would do just as well. Other LG G4 specs include Android 5.0 Lollipop, naturally, Snapdragon 805 or 810 with 64 bit architecture to match the OS and LTE Cat 6. The LG G4 could just as well be among the first smartphones to run on LG’s own Nuclun processor.
The flagship of 2015 should end up with IP certification for dust- and waterproof capabilities, since that is slowly becoming the norm for smarpthones nowadays. LG has also introduced a smartphone screen with an extremely thin bezel. This screen has bezels only 0.7 mm thick, which is quite the feat for a smartphone. Even though LG hasn’t confirmed that the screen was designed specifically for the LG G4, we certainly expect it to show up. We also expect a camera upgrade on the LG G4, not that we were unsatisfied with the camera setup on the LG G3.
Even though these LG G4 specs aren’t confirmed by the company, most of them are pretty realistic, to be honest. While we do rely on rumor and on analysis of the evolution of smartphones, take all this with a grain of salt until LG details its plans for its newest flagship. What do you think the LG G4 will look like? Do you condone the ultra-thin bezels or do you think your screen feels unprotected without it?
