Constantine will have a shorter first season

Constantine may be savvy with the occult but it seems that he can’t charm a larger audience. NBC has recently announced via Deadline that the show’s first season will stop production at its thirteenth episode. While the first season of Constantine was indeed ordered for a 13 episode first season, they could have pulled in another 9 more episodes to form a 22 episode strong entry. This may be considered bad news but a glimmer of hope still remains in the path of the occultist as no official word from NBC suggests that the show is cancelled.

The TV show is based on Alan Moore’s popular comic book on and off hero John Constantine, a detective that deals with the supernatural and otherworldy occurences that come in his way. Originally, he appeared as brief cameos in Swamp Thing but surely enough he eventually got a long running comic series that propelled Constantine into other mediums. The most notable entry in the franchise was the movie of the same name which premiered in 2005 and starred Keanu Reeves as the lead. The TV show’s premiere had huge ratings but lost steam in its second week falling short viewer wise with a 3 million count. This isn’t something that would kill a show but expectations weren’t met. Whether NBC will renew the series or not remains a mistery untill the season is finished and another ratings count is done. The TV network doesn’t have enough information regarding Constantine’s future because the show has only been evaluated for its first 5 episodes. So there’s a small chance it will not get the axe. There are only  3 episodes left to air this year while the remainder of the season will continue in 2015.

The show is executive produced by Daniel Cerone(The Mentalist) and David S. Goyer, Goyer being responsible for penning the script for Nolan’s Batman franchise and countless other well received projects.NBC  does not remain idle, however, and does give Constantine plenty of chances in showing them that hidden potential. The network has even started to air the show on the SyFy channel and announced that the cast will be present at the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. We’ll just have to wait and see if it sticks.
