LG has announced that the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update would be rolling out to three South Korean carriers and their respective LG G3 buyers. The LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update should finish its national rollout in South Korea by the end of the week. According to LG, the OTA update for the LG G3 should roll out to LG U, SKT and Korea Telecom.
The LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update was announced quite a while back and for a time we thought that the LG G3 would receive Lollipop ahead of the Nexus line. The Nexus 4, 5, 6 and 7 were announced to receive the update on November 12, but that date got delayed a bit and consequently, the LG G3 should have become the first smartphone save for the Nexus 6 to run Android 5.0 Lollipop. But the rollout didn’t happen as soon as we expected and LG has just announced on their blog that only now did they finish the tweaks they needed to add to Google’s most recent mobile operating system.
Even though Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G3 is ready, the OTA rollout has only been announced for South Korea. We don’t have official word on when the company will be sending out the update to other regions of the world, but we suppose that by December, at least half the LG G3s around will receive the Lollipop treatment. South Korean LG G3 users can go to the LG Mobile website and upgrade their devices themselves, in case the OTA hasn’t hit them yet.
If you are impatient to get Lollipop on your LG G3, you could opt in for unofficial versions of the OS, but keep in mind that if LG hasn’t rolled out the OTA for devices yet, it means that there are still some issues the company needs to fix in order to have a smooth-running OS on their most recent flagship. The LG G3 has been called the best smartphone of the year and many users are anxious to see Android 5.0 Lollipop combined with the beautiful QHD display on the device.
The LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update should improve Bluetooth compatibility and the overall behavior of the phone when it comes to wearable devices. At the same time, interoperability with other devices and performance has also been improved, according to the company’s official blog post. Android Lollipop and its Material Design should look great on the LG G3 and we’re sure you’re running out of patience, but keep calm and wait for the official OTA, unless you want to risk your OS and device.
