Showtime, one of the biggest cable and satellite television networks in the U.S., has updated its Android app called Showtime Anytime with Chromecast support. Showtime has sent out a new update which adds Chromecast support in the form of a simple button labeled “Cast”. With the cast feature in Anytime, you can now send your screen or any other media you want to directly to your TV without cables and whatnot.
The advantage of Chromecast and building in Chromecast support for Showtime Anytime is that you can watch your favorite shows on your big-screen TV without having to plug something in or hassle with complicated settings. The new update will let you watch Showtime exclusives as well as any other content of your choice on your TV. Naturally, you won’t be able to use the Chromecast feature or Showtime Anytime, for that matter, unless you have a Showtime subscription, Time Warner Cable, Comcast Xfinity or a few other cable subscriptions.
Showtime Anytime can only be used by those with certain internet providers, and the company has recently added Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks to the list connections the app works with. With the Anytime app, you can also live-stream Showtime East and West feeds, which is a neat feature for those of us who really love our TV shows. Showtime Anytime was launched in October and rivals HBO Go and Cinemax’s streaming applications. Even though the list of supported providers is still pretty restricted, Showtime Anytime is a good application to have, especially if you commute a lot. The company will also add more supported networks in the future, although we don’t know which and when. Even though watching TV on a phone is a bit annoying, due to the small screen real estate, tablet users will be more than happy with Anytime and all the shows it offers for subscribers.
