Moto X at Verizon updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop

The Moto X at Verizon Wireless has finally been updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop yesterday. Android 5.0 Lollipop is the latest and greatest mobile OS from Google, even though its launch hasn’t been as smooth as Google had hoped. Just as with the iOS 8 launch, Android 5.0 Lollipop came out with quite a few bugs needing urgent fixes, after the rollout was repeatedly delayed. Even so, it’s good to hear that Verizon’s Moto X is also receiving the OTA.

Your Moto X should receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the following weeks, although be aware that the rollout of the OS is taking some time, as Google chose to take it slow so that they can work on fixes and improvements in the meantime. The first thing you’ll notice after updating your Moto X to Android 5.0 Lollipop is Material Design, which brings a flat, smooth look and great animations to the OS. The Moto X will also display notifications on the lock screen ranked by type and apps, making them actionable at the same time. Android 5.0 Lollipop has a completely revamped notification system which allows you to customize every function you want to.

You also get a Downtime setting on your Moto X which will allow you to set priority for notifications and other disturbances. Downtime will only let high priority interruptions pass, so that you can be fully focused when on a date or in a meeting or even in class. It seems like a better alternative to the Silent mode for smartphones. Moto Display and AMbient Display have also been updated on the Moto X, allowing the phone to display important notifications using the contextual computing processor which uses less power. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Moto X also improves performance and battery life, showing you exact numbers and estimates for when your device will power off due to lack of power.

Keep in mind that once you allow Android 5.0 Lollipop to be installed on your Moto X, you won’t be able to downgrade unless you root the device, which voids your warranty. Before installing the software, be sure to back up your data and charge your phone to at least 50% so that your install can run smoothly. The Moto X is one of the most acclaimed releases from Motorola in 2014, touting a great bang for buck and impressive specs and design. Even though you have lots of flagships to choose from, the 2014 Moto X is one of the best and most reliable options out there, in my opinion. Sound off in the comments below to let us know how you feel about Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Verizon Moto X.
