Blade Runner 2 Won’t Be Helmed by Ridley Scott

Blade Runner is a great piece of science fiction and it is, by all accounts,a classic, It was fun to watch Harrison Ford play Rick Deckard and it seems that he will reprise his role in one form or another. The director announced a while ago that both scripts for Prometheus 2 and Blade Runner 2 have been finished and stated that the sequel to the original will begin shooting next year in 2015. The only problem here is that Ridley Scott will be producing only and not actually directing the film. Who will helm the dystopian science fiction flick remains to be seen.

The filmmaker said during a promotional interview for his next movie Exodus: Gods and Kings that he will not be in charge with directing but confirmed Ford’s return. Blade Runner 2’s story has not been detailed fully although Scott mentioned how it links to the original: “We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one. Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him’; he comes in in the third act. ” It seems that Harrison Ford will remain in the back seat for this one and thus making way for another protagonist to roam the neo-dystopian landscape. In terms of story we can only hope that it will come close to the Blade Runner we know and love.Producing alongside Scott will be the original’s scribe Hampton Fancher who also wrote the draft for the sequel. Michael Green (Green Lantern) had been tapped to tweak the script.

The story of Blade Runner which appeared in 1982 dealt with Rick Deckard, a man whose specialty was to hunt down replicants that were illegaly staying on Earth. The replicants were genetically enginered androids that were mass manufactured by the Tyrell Corporation and used for heavy labor in off-world colonies. The movie was inspired by Phillip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? . Blade Runner 2 appears to be coming along quite nicely but we won’t know for sure until its premiere which will happen sometime in the future.
