Microsoft Launches Lumia 535 in India

Microsoft has launched Lumia 535, the first smartphone of the Lumia series without the Nokia brand on it, in India. The phone – the dual-sim version – costs Rs 9,199, or approximately $149 at today’s exchange rate, Firstpost.com reports.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 is the newest member of the Lumia series. Unlike its competitors, Microsoft has not launched a flagship product – it has tried this strategy in the past, and failed to significantly improve its market share. Instead, it is an affordable handset with some decent specifications and a very convincing price – an upgraded reincarnation of one of Microsoft’s popular Windows Phone models. The phone was destined to be launched on the Asian market first – a market of significant growth, currently dominated by Android phones.

As I said before, the phone’s specifications are quite convincing: it has a 5″ IPS LCD screen, in trend with today’s expectations, it has a 5 megapixel back camera with LED flash and a similar front camera, allowing for high definition video calling and high quality selfies. Its display is quite nice – the 5″ screen is covered in Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, it has a 960×540 pixels resolution (QHD) and a pixel density of 220 ppi. It has the same quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU as its predecessor, the Lumia 530, but comes with more RAM (1GB instead of 512MB). It has 8GB of internal storage space (almost half of which is occupied by its operating system) and 15GB of free Microsoft OneDrive storage included.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 dual-SIM supports simultaneous 3G on both SIM cards, but does not support 4G. Microsoft has done a great deal to offer the best possible features for the lowest possible price to its users. The specifications and the price make the Lumia 535 a perfect first smartphone, and might also increase brand loyalty due to the premium Microsoft services – like Skype and Microsoft Office – included with the phone’s operating system.
