The Walking Dead juggernaut approaches its mid-season finale this Sunday as a full assault on Atlanta is underway. Knowing that we won’t see another zombie slaying until 2015 leaves many of us excited to see how cataclysmic the events of the first half’s conclusion will be. Emotions will run high judging from what Norman Reedus, Sonequa Martin-Green and producer Gale Hurd had to say. In a world where nobody is safe, only our hope for a big bang keeps us warm.
During and interview with TV Guide, actor Norman Reedus said how he had to prepare himself for Daryl’s scenes and how he couldn’t possibly not tear up without taking long time outs. Think about this, if fan favorite tough guy Daryl Dixon can’t hold his emotions in check, how bad could it be? “I sat on an apple box with my head between my legs and just bawled for an hour. I really wanted to not tear up during the scene, I wanted to be like I wasted every tear in my body before we started shooting, so I sat there and cried and cried and cried.”The comic book which the Walking Dead TV show is based does have its fair share of upsetting moments, especially some that are not even in the show. That’s what diferentiates Robert Kirkman’s comic so much from the rest as it establishes characters beautifully only to be taken out in the most random fashion imaginable. If you don’t believe me, check out Lori’s death in the comics. Truly heart-wrenching. Reedus wasn’t the only one to warn us of the heaviness of this finale. Actress Sonequa Martin-Green told ComicBook how the events of Sunday’s finale will echo throughout the rest of the season describing it as “game-changing”. Producer Gale Anne Hurd seems to be on the same page as the producer considers both halves of the season as separate. Yet she did raise a couple of questions regarding her answer to IGN‘s inquiry about the finale: “It’s going to be the kind of episode where people go, ‘I can see how this happened, but I didn’t see it coming.’ What does this mean? Will Rick and his crew get out safely? Or maybe Rick’s past as a cop will somehow have a role when he meets Dawn? Maybe an alliance will pop up. We’l just have to see.
The Walking Dead as a series has its ups and downs. Some pacing issues do creep up from time to time but one thing they nail and that is the mid-season finale. Color us curious. The last episode will air on AMC on November 30 at 9 P.M .
