Thanksgiving Box Office – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Persists

Thanksgiving is a celebratory holiday and the same amount of joyfulness is available at the box office table, where (ironically enough) The Hunger Games is served as main dish, flavored so it would appeal to the pickiest in the audience, as the figure of around $11 million rightly proves. The lead is followed by two freshly released comedy/ animation movies, but gaining the top position was still no fight for the best opening movie of the year.

The following two positions were taken on November 27 by fresh productions. Both number two:Penguins of Madagascar and number three: Horrible Bosses 2 premiered on Wednesday, the first being a TV Series turned into a movie, whereas the second one is a sequel. It seems that animations fit the large public, as previously demonstrated by Big Hero 6 (which still maintains a position in the top 5 of Thanksgiving Box Office charts). As for Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, they may be back as number two position of Box Office, but they are definitely number one at keeping the world safe and sound. The adventure-comedy animation gained $3,950,000, according to Pro.boxoffice.com and was followed closely by Horrible Bosses 2, which resumed at a figure of $3,060,000. Positions number four and five triggered yet another dispute between Big Hero 6 and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, with the animation surpassing the Sci/Fi epic once more: figures show a battle of $3,056,000 VS $3,040,000. The difference between the two is barely noticeable, but present in statistics.

Katniss Everdeen, who becomes the symbol of rebellion, proves to maintain her audience interested and her admirers at the edge of their seats even after about a week from the release of the movie. In this way, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 reserves its top position in yet another box office report, apart from the weekend of its release. The week finale of 21 November reported The Hunger Games had cashed the record opening figure for the year. With highly awaited movies like The Imitation Game opening this Friday, the next weekend box office report will be a real treat with a possible reclassification and many turnarounds.
