Amazon Kindle Fire Sales Soar on Black Friday

Amazon has reasons to be proud of their Kindle Fire tablets this Black Friday – the sales of the tablets have skyrocketed last weekend, growing 300% compared to last year’s, Time reports. This is the second year when Amazon’s handheld devices register a record growth – last year’s sales were four times larger than a year before, the company’s announcement reads.

The massive growth in Kindle sales was caused by Amazon’s decision to seriously reduce the price of the devices – the Amazon Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7 were all sold for prices $20 to $30 lower than usual. Besides the retailer has offered a discount on its Fire TV set top box, which sold for $69 instead of $100. Also, they reduced the price for their Fire Phone, but with no apparent reason to brag about its sales apparently…

The Amazon Kindle deal was apparently sweetened for Amazon’s customers with the addition of a few deals to all their sold devices – a free app that allows them to read the latest news from The Washington Post for six months, with the possibility to extend their subscription with 6 more months for $1, and to subscribe after a year for the daily edition of the e-newspaper for $3 to $5, and a 30 day free trial of Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited, a service that provides them with access to over 700,000 exclusive Amazon titles for a flat monthly fee.

“This holiday there are going to be a lot of customers opening up new Amazon devices,” Amazon’s Senior VP of Devices, Dave Limp said in a statement. “We’re energized by the year over year growth of tablet and e-reader Black Friday sales on Amazon.com, plus the success of the new product categories we’ve launched this year.”
