Andy Serkis is indeed the voice in the 88 seconds teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For a while now, there has been much speculation of whether the actor will star in the upcoming movie but it seems that Serkis has confirmed on Good Morning America that his vocals are the ones present in the trailer. Now if we only knew who he’ll be in the film. He surely won’t be a good guy judging from his creepy voice.
The actor, most recently known for his motion capture performance as Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will star in Force Awakens although it hasn’t been revealed yet what role he’ll have. According to HitFix, Andy Serkis will have a “pivotal role” in the movie. Nobody knew for sure whose voice was narrating the teaser although many believed it was Benedict Cumberbatch. Well, it’s all cleared now. Even Cumberbatch rejected the rumors at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London: “I am not the voice of the Star Wars trailer, nor am I the hooded character with the rather cool lightsaber.” Ok, but will Andy Serkis star in his human form? The actor is not that well known live action. He lended his voice, facial features and body movement for Gollum in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and then some more for Caesar the ape in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. So maybe he’ll be an alien? Either way, he’s a welcome addition to the hype train as we already have the cast from the original Star Wars trilogy to spice things up.
More about Andy Serkis’s role in episode VII is still a mistery, although besides the “pivotal role” part, he’ll reportedly not be much on the screen and he’s going to have another different approach character-wise. We’ve seen him as a plotting and obbsessed creature and a calm and calculated ape so it wouldn’t be a problem for an actor of this caliber. Maybe he’ll have a similar role as to the Emperor in the original films. He also appeared briefly in the movies. It’s something to ponder. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere on December 18 2015.
