The Fantastic Four reboot has been from the get go the exact opposite of its original counterpart which starred Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Ioan Gruffudd. Movies nowadays especially superhero ones have a more grounded tone but seeing as Fantastic Four is set in the Marvel Universe it does come as a surprise. Marvel movies have a lot more over powered heroes than DC has for instance. So it’s interesting to see in which direction this reboot will take us. We now have an official synopsis that sheds light on bits of the story.
20th Century Fox has confirmed the plot details and there are a couple of tweaks on this modern approach:” a contemporay re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.” We got the feeling ever since the reboot was announced that the movie would be an origin story as most installments in the superhero genre tend to have. Though the alternate universe bit is a dramatic change to the original way that our superhero family had gotten their powers. In the comics( and original movie) Reed, Sue, Johny and Ben got blasted with cosmic rays while on a scientific mission in space.Plus the characters in the reboot will be a lot younger. And we all know who the “former friend turned enemy” is going to be. We may be looking at a possible introduction of a modern Doctor Doom and that is exciting in all kinds of ways.
Fantastic Four is helmed by Chronicle director Josh Trank with a script by Days of Future Past scribe Simon Kinberg. The combination of these two spells success but that remains to be seen. The stars that will play our heroes are Kate Mara( House of Cards), Jamie Bell (Filth), Miles Teller( Divergent) and Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle). Fantastic Four is slated for an August 7 2015 premiere.
