Finally, the Galaxy S5 is now receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, after a long (not so much) wait. Galaxy S5 owners should now be receiving the OTA on their handsets. Be wary, though, because the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is slow and can be affected by your carrier. Nonetheless, the Galaxy S5 is now among the first non-Nexus devices to receive Google’s latest Lollipop treatment. LG started rolling out the update to the LG G3 earlier, so the QHD display-touting smartphone gets to yell “first”.
The Galaxy S5 was set to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update by the end of November, but since Google delayed the rollout even for its own Nexus and Google Play Edition devices, the update was a little late. Android 5.0 Lollipop was released alongside the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, staples of recent Google, HTC and Motorola engineering, The two devices aim to be a model of how a mobile device should operate regarding software and hardware. While the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are impressive indeed, Android 5.0 Lollipop was the most anticipated and impressive release from Google this year. Even though Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs have already surfaced, Google should fix the small issues in an upcoming update soon.
The first ones to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their Samsung Galaxy S5 handset were those in Poland. Since their Galaxy S5 handsets received the update, no other regions have reported getting the OTA. That’s not surprising, since Google has made it clear that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update rollout would be a slow one, so that they could work on issues reported by Nexus users in the meantime. Nonetheless, we’re glad to see the advancement in the rollout for the Galaxy S5 and we are expecting to see a global OTA rollout soon. Other regions should be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop on their Galaxy S5 handsets soon.
