Although the holiday shopping twins – Black Friday and Cyber Monday – is over, there are still several special offers and promotions running all over the internet. Today it’s Spotify’s term to try to attract new customers through a promotional offer – it will offer its new users three months of its Premium services for only 99 cents, Engadget reports.
The Spotify service is available in two forms – one of them is free and supported by ads, which are annoying (of course), and the other one normally costs $9.99 a month, offering better sound quality, offline playback and – of course – an ad-free experience. This premium service is now offered by the company for a fraction of its original price, 99 cents, but only for three months, and only for users who are not currently Spotify users.
At the same time Spotify has published its list of the most popular music of the year through its blog. Reflecting on a year that has passed, the service looks back on what its 50 million users have listened to the most in the last 12 months. It’s interesting to take a look at what music and artists were trending throughout the year. According to the list available here, the most popular male artist was Ed Sheeran, while the top female artist was none other than Katy Perry. The most popular group on Spotify was Coldplay during the year, and the most listened to album was one released by the same Ed Sheeran, titled “x”. The list reveals that Pharell Williams’ “Happy” was the most popular song in 2014, followed in the top 10 list by “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit, “Summer” by Calvin Harris, “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry, “All of Me” by John Legend, “Timber” by Pitbull, “Rude” by Magic, “Waves” by Mr. Probz, “Problem” by Ariana Grande and “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic.
