Proud owners of the Moto G, one of the cheapest and best mid-range smartphones on the market, is now getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop treatment. The rollout has begun in India, where Moto G owners are reporting that the OTA is coming through and Material Design is being initiated on their smartphones.
The Moto G is a big success for Motorola and its very existence demonstrates that good phones can be found for a cheap price. Even though the new Moto G (2014) has already surpassed its predecessor and is already getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, it’s nice to know Motorola isn’t abandoning older handsets. The Moto G is appreciated because of its little bloatware and because it’s as close as you can get to stock Android without having to buy a Nexus device. Now, the Moto G is finally getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update which makes us think about the fact that surely it could have been pretty hard to port the brand new OS to an old mid-range smartphone. The feat could be achieved thanks to the previously mentioned stock Android-like interface of the Moto G.
Even though only Indian Moto G owners are receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update at the moment, the date still marks the beginning of a global rollout which should end by the time we hit February, the latest. Other Motorola devices which are more recent, like the Moto G 2014, Moto X 2014, Motorola Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx, Droid Ultra and more are already benefiting from the Lollipop treatment. While other OEMs like Samsung and HTC are still a bit behind on the rollout, it seems Motorola is as confident as ever and is rolling out the update faster than most. We are glad to see that the Moto G still has a lot of support from the companies and form users, and we hope the international rollout commences soon.
