Android 5.0 Lollipop has finally begun its rollout to the HTC One M8 and One M7 flagships after a lot of delays and issues. On Saturday, people started noticing that a new update was incoming to their HTC flagships and rejoiced when they saw that indeed, Android 5.0 Lollipop has finally reached their smartphones. Even though HTC and Google had some issues with approving update builds, it seems that the companies have finally decided that the Android 5.0 Lollipop build proposed by HTC was suitable and the OTA is now rolling out all around the world to the last two flagships from the company.
Even though the Android 5.0 Lollipop release date for the HTC One M8 and One M7 is long overdue, it is finally coming to everybody’s favorite metal-clad flagships. Be wary though, because the first devices in HTC’s portfolio to receive the OTA are the Google Play Editions, which means that those of you with generic versions of the HTC One M8 or One M7 still have some time to spare until they get Android 5.0 Lollipop.
We don’t have an exact Android 5.0 Lollipop release date for the carrier versions of the HTC One M8 and One M7, but as per HTC, the update should begin its rollout no later than February 2015, While that still is a long time to wait, it’s nice to see that OEMs are unusally fast in developing their own versions of the new mobile operating system from Google. The new features in Android 5.0 Lollipop include extensive Material Design which has become all the rage lately as well as a revamped notifications system and of course, 64 bit CPU support. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has already hit most Motorola devices, as well as the Xperia Z Ultra phablet and the LG G3 flagship, too. We might even receive a surprise from HTC and see our carrier HTC One M8 or One M7 being updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop earlier than February 2015. Once we have a release date for the OTA, we will let you know.
