Mark Wahlberg wasn’t always the lovable goof in movies, nor the Oscar nominated actor we know today. No, back in 1988 he was a rebelious teen that disregarded authority, a hooligan if you will. And he had trouble with the police. It’s kind of amazing how different he is today as Mark Wahlberg is happily married and has 4 children. Plus he enjoys the status of a loved Hollywood star and entrepeneur. That last part though is halted by his criminal record as the star can’t expand his Wahlburgers food chain without a clean slate.Well, it appears that Wahlberg is petitioning the state of Massachusetts to clear his record.
Back in 1988, Mark Wahlberg was 16 and wasn’t even Marky Mark yet.On April 8 he broke a stick over Thanh Lam’s head and called him racial slurs. Mark Wahlberg then fled the scene only to punch another Vietnamese named Hoa Trinh so hard that he blinded the man in one eye. In the police report it states that Wahlberg made numerous unsolicited racial statements about ‘gooks’and ‘slant-eyed’ gooks”. The racially charged attack was fueled by drugs and alcohol and the police seized pot from him.In his pardon, Wahlberg wrote : I am deeply sorry for the actions that I took on the night of April 8, 1988, as well as for any lasting damage that I may have caused the victims.Since that time, I have dedicated myself to becoming a better person and citizen so that I can be a role model to my children and others.”The man that we know today may regret his past misdeeds but his victims are still there. If the actor does get his pardon, then his record will be clean but he will still have to live with his actions.
Wahlberg has mentioned on David Letterman that he’ll laser off all his tatoos from his youth and even told Howard Stern that he’s so dedicated to his wife and his Catholic faith, that the actor abstains from pleasuring himself. So basically, he wants to do a 180.The event in 1988 was not a contained one, as in 1986 Mark Wahlberg along with some of his friends verbally attacked a 12 year old black boy named Jesse Coleman and his other two siblings. The three eventually got away from Wahlberg’s posse by reaching a Burger King. We don’t know yet if the actor’s plea will move Governor Deval Patrick into granting a pardon but it’s a possibility.
