Lamborghini Unveils $6,000 Android Phone

Lamborghini, the Italian company best known as the purveyor of stunning super cars that have been the stuff of posters and fantasies for years, have just announced that they are entering the Android smartphone market with the Tauri 88.

While it is true that the Tauri 88 will cost you a pretty penny, it is more about performance than just about having another shiny trinket. This is a surprising change for the luxury smartphone market which, until now, has just primarily focused on expensive and flashy materials instead of placing an emphasis on power beneath the shiny exterior.

It should come as no surprise that Lamborghini’s Tauri 88 will feature luxury materials such as leather (in your choice in black, blue, red, orange or brown) and steel (with black, gold, or plain color options.) However, when you peek ‘under the hood’ Lamborghini’s smartphone is more like it’s four wheeled cousins. It boasts a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor (that’s rumored to clock in at 2.3GHz), 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage for all of your selfies and a 3,400mAh battery that should deliver 1,000 hours of life on standby. All of this will be power Android 4.4 KitKat, the OS that the phone will be ships with. (Though, there’s no word as to whether or not the Tauri 88 will see Android 5.0 Lollipop.)

It is also interesting to note that Lamborghini’s phone will be LTE enabled and have two SIM card slots. Why are two SIM card slots interesting? Well, that’s because both slots will be running at the same time which means you could utilize your LTE data with one SIM card and using the other for an LTE call simultaneously. The Tauri 88 will have an impressive 20 mega pixel rear facing camera and an 8 mega pixel front facing camera to make sure your snaps are the sharpest shots on Instagram. And to display all of your pretty pictures? The Tauri comes loaded with a 5 inch screen that boasts 1080p display, an accurate 10 point touch panel and oleophobic coating. For those who don’t know, the oleophobic coating will protect the display from your sweaty hands as you realize that you are just one of less than 2,000 people in the world to have this phone.

Yep, that’s right. Lamborghini is only going to make 1,947 of these to honor the birth year of Antonio “Tonio” Lamborghini, the progeny of Lamborghini founder Ferruccio. It seems that Lamborghini may have just created the first poster worthy smartphone with the Tauri 88.
