Spotify now shows your friends’ favorite tracks

Spotify is steadily becoming its own social network just like its buyer, Facebook. Now a new feature has been introduced that fills you in with what your followers are listening to.This daily new chart is called Top Tracks in Your Network and hopes to bridge the gap between you and your followers.Even though Spotify has similar elements like top music for genres and locations, Top Tracks in Your Network takes a more personal approach as the company wants to allow you to widen your music discovery through sociability.

After Spotify Follow, which allowed users to follow friendsĀ and artists, the company saw how music sharing can happen through online chatting or typical text.On Spotify you have the ability to share tracks or albums, one which will become more fluid with Top Tracks as its main idea is to “think about the most human aspects of social music.”

Top Tracks in Your Network is a daily updated playlist that is influenced by the activity of your friends’ musical taste. How it works is based on an algorithm which evaluates how many of your followers are listening to said track and how many times the track has been played. The feature thus wants to capture key moments in your network’s current music preferences and also to help you discover new music. So, if your buddy is always telling you to listen to a specific tune or album and you forget, you can always check your shared chart and remind yourself to have a listen.

Spotify will now also let you see who in your Facebook or Spotify newtork is listening to specific music.Spotify product manager Miles Lennon wants to broaden our horizons not only on this platform but on all fronts: “We want you to not be able to imagine listening to music without this kind of information.”The music medium is everchanging and we don’t always know what becomes popular until another trend pops up so with Top Tracks you will always be updated.
