George Clooney weighs in on the Sony attacks

George Clooney is the latest actor to respond to the controversial event that happened at Sony and is higly displeased at how Hollywood reacted and backed down from handling the whole affair. With The Interview’s theatrical release cancelled it seems that the yet to be confirmed North Korean hackers have won the battle.Yet there is still something to be done in dealing with such threats not only during such attacks but also in the aftermath. George Clooney responds to the mess that brought a part of the film industry to its knees.

The Interview was recently denied screening in all major theaters and now only of handful of individuals are trying to get their hands on a copy and stick it to the hackers by releasing the film in their respective theaters.George Clooney told Deadline that he is certain that the group who orchestrated the attack of Sony are indeed acting on behalf of North Korea:”With just a little bit of work, you could have found out that it wasn’t just probably North Korea; it was North Korea.”George Clooney started a petition of support for Sony one which had a simple objective. To rally all of the big names of Hollywood under a single ideal, one where no studio, business or network should be afraid of outside threats that would jeopardise their freedom of speech. After all, The Interview would have been just a silly comedy that may or may not have been dumb fun.Nevertheless, guess how many signed the petition? Not a single person.Clooney noted how carefully the hackers isolated Sony from the rest of the public by stealing embarassing e-mails and crumbling their infrastructure in little time. Thus nobody could side with Sony but instead distanced themselves from the whole mess and let the company to the wolves. What George Clooney wants and, in his oppinion, what everyone else should want, is to “not give in to ransom”. In this case, to support Sony’s decision of not giving in to these terrorists.

Regarding the number of people who were contacted to sign the petition, the actor has not named a single one yet he does not want to criticise his peers”…well, nobody wanted to be the first to sign on.Now, this isn’t finger-pointing on that. This is just where we are right now, how scared this industry has been made.”A core reason as to why no company wanted to board this endeavor may result in fear of them being the next Sony.George Martin has also noted in his blog how dissapointed he is at the fiasco and wants to screen The Interview in his private theater in Santa Fe with Seth Rogen being invited. The Interview’s overall plot involved the assassination of North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un. A very heavy subject though George Clooney still aspires for more “challenging content”,something that may never be restricted.
