Skipping altogether the Windows 9 name, Microsoft decided to make its latest project, Windows 10, public. This marks the baby steps to compute a new OS, one that will be much more unified than its predecesor, Windows 8. The technical preview for the new Windows 10 will be made available for download on the Windows Insider Program website. A Microsoft account will be required in order for you to get your paws on it.
Regarding its release, what information is available so far on Windows 10 you will find squeezed in here. The technical preview was made available on September 30th for desktops and laptops, while Microsoft released the Windows Insider Program on Octomber 1st. The technical preview build will soon be made available to servers and starting October 7 it was made available to users of Windows 7 alike. The preview builds for consumers will not be released until early 2015. The Technical Preview for Windows 10 will end altogether on precisely April 15 2015, which also marks the start of Microsoft’s Build 2015 Conference. The company will likely tackle the Windows 10 release date at that point. According to Myerson, Windows 10 will be shipping to customers in the 3rd trimester of 2015. More information on the matter will be made available on January 21st, when Microsoft will host an event on its Redmond campus.
The pricing on Windows 10 is something that is still shrouded in fog. Microsoft Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Turner, stated that: “We’ve got to monetize it differently…”. He then went about talking about servicing on the new OS: “There are additional opportunities for us to bring additional services to the product and do it in a creative way. And through the course of Summer and Spring we’ll be announcing what that business model looks like.” Recent news go to suggest that Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox, will be attending the January 21st event on the Redmond campus to tackle gaming initiatives in the new Windows 10. According to a recent leak, an Xbox app might be included in the task bar for the new OS, which is killer news, now we just have to wait and see if it’s true. Just think about the possibilities, there is still information yet to be published, though what we have seen so far just tickles the brain. Can’t wait for January 21st, and I bet the eagerness is not just one-sided.
