The iPhone 6 Plus is for sure Apple’s brightest star on the board, but the Android niche has a few big-bullies of its own; for example the LG G3. Both companies have strived this year to bring out the best from the production lines, but what have they actually achieved with their devices?
The design of the two handsets differs much. Even though the screen size is the same, the iPhone 6 Plus measures in at 158 x 78 x 7.1 mm (long, across, thick), while the LG G3 is 146 x 75 x 8.9 mm. The iPhone 6 Plus is 12 mm longer and 3 mm wider than the LG G3. The aspect in which the iPhone 6 Plus shines is the depth, it is roughly 20 % thinner than the LG G3.
The LG G3, even though a bit bulkier, is lighter, 150 grams vs the iPhone 6 Plus’ 172 grams. In the build category it is clear that the iPhone 6 Plus is the winner with its premium aluminum uni-body design, while the LG G3 only gets a faux-metal plastic encasing. The casing color options are the same as for the iPhone 5s, silver, gold, space gray. On the other hand LG went into much more detail offering 5 color variants, black, gold, burgundy, violet and white. The physical buttons on the iPhone 6 Plus are located on the edges, while the LG G3 has them set up on the back, which might take some time getting used to.
When looking at what each display has to offer, it is clear that LG G3 beats the iPhone 6 Plus to a pulp. The display resolution on the LG G3 stands at 2560 x 1440 with 538 ppi (pixel per inch), while the iPhone 6 Plus goes up to just 1920 x 1080 with 401 ppi. Both machines come equipped with IPS panels, but the LED-backlit panel on the 6 Plus might offer a more immersive experience, albeit not as sharp and crisp as the LG G3 display.
The iPhone 6 Plus comes packing a touch-based Touch ID fingerprint sensor, while the LG G3 doesn’t have any such high-tech authentication built in. The battery size is not that different. The LG G3 packs a nice 3000 mAh piece, while on the iPhone 6 Plus the battery measures 2915 mAh. The LG G3 comes equipped with a unique feature, offering split-screen multitasking with its Dual Window setting, but only with a limited number of apps.
The snappers on the machines are quite the deal, especially when talking about the LG G3. The LG G3 packs 13 MP on the rear, while on the front it has 2.1 MP, with the iPhone 6 Plus only providing 8 MP on the rear and a 1.2 MP on the front. The LG G3 provides laser auto-focus, and focus-to-snap feature for quick picks on the tap. Both devices have their cameras equipped with Optical Image Stabilization.
The storage options for the two devices are as such: the iPhone 6 Plus offers three variants, 16/64/128 GB, whilst the LG G3 only has two, 16/32 GB. However, the LG G3 provides a microSD slot to pump up the gigs. The Apple A8 processor on the new iPhone is pretty beefy performance wise. The one on the LG G3 is a Snapdragon 801, 32-bit, quad core, running at 2.5 GHz. The iPhone only offers 1GB of RAM, while the LG G3 gets two options, 2/3 GB RAM, depending on the storage option that is chosen. The iPhone runs on the new iOS 8, while the LG G3 on the Android 4.4 KitKat, with the LG custom UI on top of that. IF you’re lucky, you already have Android 5.0 Lollipop installed on your flagship, since its rollout has began a few weeks ago.
The full retail starting price for the LG G3 is $600 while the iPhone 6 Plus costs $750 for the base model. Both handsets have their ups and downs, but overall the LG G3 provides more functionality and better features, while the iPhone 6 Plus is more keen on the build part. Wrapping it up, it all comes down to that iOS vs. Android debate. Which do you choose?
