Origin Millennium: An Impressive Behemoth

Origin is showing to the public just what it can come up with… and oh boy the Origin Millennium is one heck of a machine. Even though the Origin Millennium is being referred to as a mid-tower, its size is just about the same as one would see on a full tower. It measures in at roughly 21 x 10 x 22 inches (long, across, deep) on its side, and weighs in at about 50 pounds.

The custom design of the Origin Millennium consists of metal and plastic encasing with a large side-window panel. Through the window pane one can see a complex, remote-controlled LED system. The metal build feels premium and solid, while the plastic build is quite the opposite, flimsy and cheap.

Connectivity wise, the top of the chassis features 4 x USB 3.0 ports, individual microphone/headphone jacks, fan control knobs and the all-time present power and reset buttons. The back lining is something out of a dreamworld: 10 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 5.1 audio, antenna connections for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and two Ethernet jacks. Also the three GTX 980s provide with separate Display Ports, one DVI and one HDMI 2.o. Not every video output can be used at once though. Nvidia software only permits for up to four monitors, at 4k, running at the same time; nor can you increase the cap by adding any extra cards.

Let’s talk about performance… cause my God, this is quite mind-blowing. Intel’s newly released octa-core monster, the Core i7-5960x, is the chip of choice for the Origin Millennium. The processor is without any leash, and given the Origin Millennium’s liquid-cooling it can push the turbo-boost up to 4.5 Ghz. Ain’t that something to glare at?

Still not impressed? Well lets get a look at the graphics on the Origin Millennium. Not one, not two, BUT three Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 video cards, running at 4 GB GDDR5/256-bit, not to mention 16 GB DDR4 RAM? With that much power can it bring down a mountain? To know that you might just have to quit saving money for that new car, cause this little rascal costs just as much, a retail price of 6.300 $. With a price tag like that, it is very difficult to get around buying the Origin Millennium, unless your pockets are lined with gold and diamonds, or you just won the lottery.
