Goodbye to Language 3D by French director Jean-Luc Godard was awarded by The National Society of Film Critics with the title of Best Picture of 2014. The society held its 49th annual gathering on January 3, 2015. According to the official web page of the society, the meeting encompassed ‘’many of the country’s most distinguished movie critics’’ and from five to nine members were eligible to vote ‘’any film that opened in the U.S. during the year 2014’’.
Goodbye to Language 3D is a love drama of a married woman who meets and a single man and the two are reunited after several seasons pass. Their union is over watched by the image of a straying dog. Héloïse Godet plays the part of Josette, Kamel Abdeli is Gédéon and Richard Chevallier becomes Marcus.
Although Jean-Luc Godard’s Goodbye to Language or Adieu au langage, as the original title dictates, is not an Oscar buzzed movie, the picture managed to impress the Society of Film Critics. Adieu au langage also left as recipient of the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. As for its competitors in the case of The National Society of Film Critics, Godard managed to surpass some great names like Richard Linklater and Boyhood, Iñárritu’s Birdman and Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner. Other awarded names of the festival were Richard Linklater (Boyhood) as Best Director or Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner) as Best Actor – who thus doubled his Capri Film Festival prize. Best Actress went to Marion Cotillard, while Wes Anderson’s truly grand The Grand Budapest Hotel was tagged as Best Screenplay.
