Even if not known to many, Huawei is actually the third biggest smartphone producer in the world and one of its latest creations, the Huawei Ascend P7 is here to show just that. The designs on Huawei phones are usually solid with a premium feel, but the sales have not been very high.
The 5 inch display on the Ascend P7 is Full HD at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel density of 445 ppi, a very crisp and sharp one indeed. The coloring is bright and the phone has good viewing angles.
The Ascend P7 features a 1.8 GHz quad-core chip, a Mali-450 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. It scores well for a mid-to-high-end handset, but it is not as smooth as a Galaxy S5 or an iPhone 6 Plus. It does its job, but it doesn’t really stand out of the crowd in this aspect. The Ascend P7 features 16GB of storage and a microSD card slot for extra space. Connectivity-wise it offers: GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro USB 2.0.
The cameras on the Ascend P7 are quite admirable. The rear snapper has 13 MP, while the most impressive part is the front camera which packs 8 MP. Think of it… 8 MP for selfies! Ain’t that something to stir up your interest? The front facing camera on the Ascend P7 comes packing a feature called “Beauty Level”. It allows you to automatically adjust the aesthetic quality of your close-up snap. Your face will get more airbrushed depending on how high the beauty level is. Alas this is a feature that will probably please some teen girls with the love of selfies, for the rest… what is the purpose of it?
On the design aspect it looks quite nice with its uni-body design. The Ascend P7 features a glass encasing on the back, like the iPhone 4/4s has. It features a metal band along the edges that bring to mind the iPhone 5s. The design on the Ascend P7 is a premium one, it looks nice, but the downfall of it is that the glass backing is quite fragile and hard to handle.
The battery on the Ascend P7 is not that good. Its capacity tops up at 2500 mAh, but you will have to customize your battery saving options to make it last longer than 8 hours on a work schedule. The Ascend P7 features Android 4.4 KitKat as the operating system, with a release price of $630, kind of spicy for what it can do. All in all the Ascend P7 is good-ish, with some hiccups, though the price does not make it that marketable.
