The MSI GT80 Titan: Gaming at CES 2015

CES 2015 just keeps getting better and better and one company that we have to thank is MSI, as it unveiled its latest beast-like gaming station, the MSI GT80 Titan. The monster pack features some mind blowing features that will make the most avid gamers drool over the MSI GT80 as if it were ice-cream.

This beefy beast was announced back in October, but now we get the chance to have a face-to-face with this elusive unicorn. The screen on the MSI GT80 Titan is a nice, crisp, Full HD at 1920 x 1080 resolution. A peek under the hood shows specs that would make any muscle car envious. We are talking about a quad-core, Intel Core i7-4980HQ, clocking at a maximum of 4 GHz with 6 MB cache. The monster CPU is backed up by a healthy 24 GB of RAM. The storage on the MSI GT80 Titan is one out of a dream world. It features a “super raid” configuration of two 128 GB M.2 SATA SSDs, plus an extra 1TB HDD running at 7200 RPM. The GPU on the machine is represented by the a Nvidia 980M SLI configuration. This setup is estimated to score at roughly $3500.

The most impressive of all features on the MSI GT80 is the desktop replacement design that MSI implemented. This allows the user to easily replace most of the components on the machine via the removable panels that are placed above the keyboard and along the bottom of the device, except for the GPU. Replacing that part will require the owner to send their gaming machine to one of MSI’s partners.

The feel on the MSI GT80 Titan is quite premium. The chassis is full brushed aluminum, with excellent steel keys. The keyboard is mechanical with Cherry MX Brown switches. The track-pad, situated next to the keyboard is a shape-shifter of sorts. It goes from being a mouse to a 10-key number pad, that includes haptic feedback for key presses.

The lows on this machine go in lines of portability. It is quite bulky and not that easy to carry around like a slimmer version of an MSI gaming machine. Also as one might expect, the battery autonomy is very short. Just 1 to 1.5 hours, not quite the runner I would say, but then again how could it be with such a beefy performance? All in all if you have the money to spare, the MSI GT80 Titan is an outstanding machine that performs rigorously in any gaming situation.
