Steel clad Sony Smartwatch 3 will sport a more classy look

The Sony Smartwatch 3 was the first product the company created using Android Wear instead of the custom Android version Sony used for the first two devices. Apart from the custom Android solution that the Japanese giant used in the first place, the plastic strap and housing raised a few eyebrows in disapproval as well. To mend this wrong, the Smartwatch 3 will be available in a full metal body which hopefully will be a more aesthetically attractive sight. And instead of churning another Smartwatch that could raise the consumer’s annoyance higher, Sony decided to play it safe and opted to merely update the Smartwatch 3 body and kept the system that allows to extract the housing and place it on another strap.

Same as the regular plastic device the Smartwatch 3 comes with a 1.6″ 320 x 320 pixel screen and 1, 2 Ghz Cortex-A7. Also, GPS, accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope and 420 mAh battery are there with the 512 MB RAM and 4 GB storage space. Although the specs are the same, the outside has been altered so that now it is a better looking device and many will appreciate the fact that Sony abandoned the rubbery plastic in favour of the more sophisticated stainless steel used for both the housing and the push-pin closing strap. Before this well-deserved facelift the Smartwatch 3 seemed a fitness device or a lowly activity tracker and not a full-fledged smartwatch, but now, by keeping the original design and the IP68 water and dust resistance it has become something to brag about. Furthermore, Sony stated that it will also launch later this year a special system that would enable the usage of any 24 mm width strap.

The Lifelog Sony platform offers now a series of software interfaces which the app developers will be able to use the data gathered by the Smartwatch 3 along the other fitness devices that the company has. Starting February the stainless steel version of the Sony Smartwatch 3 will be available. And with the right price tag it could actually be a winner.
