CES 2015 was filled with surprises and one very interesting one was brought by CoolChip Technologies in the form of the kinetic cooler. CPU fans and heatsinks can get pretty big and occupy a lot of space on your PC that can otherwise benefit performance wise, but how about getting both in a small package that can perform just as good?
Constructing a machine from scratch while having space restraints is a big challenge and the heatsink with the CPU fan can be a menace when trying to squeeze everything in. Some setups just create too much heat and a heatsink is necessary, even if that means that your tower might not close or cause placement problems for other vital components. The kinetic cooler is the answer to all that and CoolChip Technologies have done a heck of a job! Not only does the kinetic cooler behaves like clockwork, it also looks spit-shiny.
The kinetic cooler is basically a circular, flat heatsink built from aluminum that also behaves like a fan, spinning itself into space. There are two pieces that comprise the whole of the design: the metal fan and the metal plate that is located directly below it and binds to the CPU. Both of the components are constructed out of thinner metal circles, set off from each other in order to create air-pockets in between the circles. This design makes the fan pull the hot air out and spread it away from the CPU.
The kinetic cooler is connected to the motherboard via the same principle a regular heatsink would, with embedded pins. The biggest difference lies in the size. The kinetic cooler doesn’t occupy the same amount of cubic space in the rig leaving room for other, more needed parts and pave a way for those pesky wires that keep messing around each time. And get this, reportedly, the kinetic cooler makes little to no noise, which is quite an impressive feat for a metal-built fan. All in all this is quite a gadget that will surely be a market success and make it to shelves sooner than you would expect.
