Motorola Moto G 2014 is Getting the Android Lollipop 5.0.2

Motorola has accomplished much with its low-cost G line of devices. It goes to show that you do not need to empty your pockets to get one of those classy high-end handsets. One such device, the Motorola Moto G 2014 has even a niftier feature: the users get the privilege of being the among the very fist to receive software updates when they roll out.

You would be surprised to find out that the Moto G 2014 was the first handset to receive the update for the Android Lollipop 5.0, even though if it was just regionally. Providers in Asia still operate with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat. This is surprising as the a Motorola device is getting the upgrade to the Lollipop even before Google’s own Nexus phones. If that isn’t a tickler wait until you hear this… the Moto G 2014 is the first handset to receive the official upgrade to Lollipop 5.0.2, at least in the U.S. of A.

The update to the Lollipop 5.0.2 has been rolling out into the open like a barrel, but it is limited nonetheless. The only model of Motorola Moto G that got the update was the XT 1033 model. As one would expect, the new software implementation is done gradually as to make sure that the update is not buggy or faulty. In any case it would be much easier for the company to set things straight just with a few devices, rather than working with a whole bunch of them. A good move to ensure that there are no issues before everyone gets a taste of the new firmware.

The official software version for the new OTA is 22.21.28. Users from the U.S. should be seeing a prompt to update in the following days, based on location and service carrier. The total size of the update is roughly 39 MB and you can manually download and install the 5.0.2 update by clicking here. Since no change-log has been made available for this update, and considering the small size you should expect some stability issues being resolved and some bug-cleaning. For the bigger guns one must wait until the end of February for the 5.1 update. Have any of you been prompted with the new OTA on your Moto G 2014?
