The Galaxy Note 4, its “malformed twin brother” , the Galaxy Note Edge, and his father, the Galaxy Note 3, are close to getting the Android Lollipop 5.0.1. This is good news indeed, as some of the most popular phablet devices are set to upgrade to the new version of Android, a “true delight” for the users. Even though no official confirmation was given to the release date, we could speculate. If we are to take note of Samsung’s timeline, the much anticipated update should occur sometime in February. The delay is explicable though, considering that the TouchWiz interface needs a lot of work to be able to cope with new Android version.
The more recent flagships will be the first in line to receive the update, so expect to see it first on the Galaxy Note 4 and the Note Edge before getting it on the Note 3. Having seen the bug issues in the Nexus and Motorola devices it is most likely that Samsung will wait and release its Lollipop update to a much stabler version, namely the 5.0.1. Rumors around the Korean giant claim that this is the case, which is understandable, as extended issues will make users quite unhappy.
The 5.0.1 Lollipop update will still be coming hand in hand with the TouchWiz UI and that means some new features. The Galaxy Note 4, Edge and Note 3 will get some stylus-oriented features to render the UI more user friendly and shiny. Using the same skin for the TouchWiz on the Lollipop 5.0.1 didn’t get in the line with user preferences, but as it seems, the UI will get a complete reshape by the time the Galaxy S6 will be unveiled at MWC 2015. Until that point we will see the 5.0.1 on the Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge and Note 3. Even some Note II devices will be getting the Lollipop, as well as the Galaxy S4/S4 Mini, S5 Mini and Galaxy Alpha. Stay tuned and we will keep you posted as soon as Samsung confirms and official date for the roll-out of the update.
