Samsung shows off its gadgets arsenal for Tony Stark

Korean tech giant Samsung showcased at CES 2015 some rather peculiar devices intended for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. The movie props presented at the show and available for the Avengers are as follows: a 1.9 inch smartwatch somewhat similar to the Samsung Gear S, two futuristic high-tech spy-oriented earpieces with large curved displays adorned by the company logo in the centre, and the most intriguing item of this list, Tony Stark’s smartphone for his personal use. All of the said items do look premium, ranging from the smartwatch to Tony Stark’s mobile phone, but I can’t ignore the fact that the more than obvious Samsung logo on these props give away the company’s marketing plan. And that’s also the sad part: they have nothing to do whatsoever with mobile tech and that was something really worth seeing. All this falls more in the realm of novelty and sparks interest, but wouldn’t we like to see them come true?

Starting with the watch, it looks way better than the actual Samsung wearable category available on the market, by having a rather nice strap harmoniously shaped and what appears a good-looking metallic finish. The depicted image is of a premium smartwatch that would fit a billionaire like Tony Stark (and not only). The two sci-fi earpieces look well, futuristic, albeit a bit over the top, in particular the gold one designed for female Avengers. Lastly, the smartphone Tony Stark would definitely use is a large 6.9 inch phablet, with a transparent display complete with a 3.65 inch edge-to-edge curved display with a classy silver strip that hold the rest of the smartphone parts and adds flair to the whole design. It does make it look like something coming out from a dream and is a striking piece of hardware that also aids in saving the world. The Starkphone.

Although the Avengers display that Samsung graced us with is all about marketing it could appeal to tech aficionados and Tony Stark fans alike and one can’t help but state that the showcased devices look very real even under close examination. The devices themselves are highly unlikely to actually work but I can’t stop thinking if the power to create these futuristic gadgets isn’t in our grasp already. Although props at this stage I strongly believe that the technology to power them and make them run does exist already and this is an interesting concept. As there is nothing like this available for the consumer market, all that’s left to do is look and marvel. For now.
