What is WhatSim? WhatsApp doesn’t pose a secret to anyone about the popularity it has especially in Europe. For the record there are roughly 600 million people using this service. It is a great free alternative to SMS on a smartphone but alas, a Wi-Fi connection or signal is still required in order to work. But what if there was a SIM card like one available at any other phone carrier that could provide unlimited messaging without the limitations of Wi-Fi or the typical SIM fees? Well, for just €10/year and a specialised SIM you can have unlimited WhatsApp text messaging, and you can connect to 400 carrier networks on 150 countries. Sending videos, photos or voice messages is also possible but this means that you’ll have to recharge WhatSim with credits to unlock these features too. Chatting over WhatsApp is of course, free of charge. Somewhat similar to a regular SIM card but not quite.
If you are an avid traveller and keep in touch with others via WhatsApp or simply need to travel for business the WhatSim makes for an ok deal. I need to mention though that neither parent company Facebook nor WhatsApp is directly involved in the WhatSim nor is it affiliated in any way. Instead, the WhatSim is the work of Zeromobile CEO Manuel Zanella whose objective is to lower phone bills whenever possible and that makes him a good guy. The company is focused for the moment on Europe, Middle East, South America and parts of Africa with no word yet for the US, but if you’re interested in keeping touch with your friends from Europe (and you’re from US) you can buy a WhatSim here. When WhatsApp will add support for voice calls as well, the WhatSim will naturally support this feature too, thus making it a handy tool for making overseas calls
