In a post on its official blog, the korean tech giant underlined the recent advances in the wireless charging technology for smartphones. The industry enthusiasts take it as a clear sign that the next Samsung smartphone – Galaxy S6 – is going to sport faster wireless charging capabilities.
Samsung’s research and constant investments in the field made it possible to cut the number, size and costs of components for wireless charging devices making the technology more accesible and more reliable. The company is a card holder in all three organizations in charge of standardizing wireless charging technologies: the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and its Qi standard, the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP).
Today, wireless charging pads powered by the Qi standards can be accessed in select McDonald’s locations in London and several Starbucks locations in the US. For the time being though, the wireless technology is only as 20-30% as efficient as the magnetic-inductive method so progress is still to me made until we can turn to this charging method as a regular day-to-day habbit.
Other hints at a new faster Samsung Galaxy smartphone were recently dropped via Samsung’s official Twitter account: “I am #TheNextGalaxy. See how I give more time to others at #Unpacked”. The anticipation rised and soon all kinds of bets surfaced regarding the new S6. According to CNet.com, we can expect: a more sleek and curvy design, more metal and less plastic, 16-21 megapixel rear camera, Android 5.0 Lollipop OS coupled with Samsung’s TouchWiz Android skin and a Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. The big reveal is scheduled for March 1st, during the Unpacked launch event in Barcelona, Spain, ahead of the Mobile World Congress taking place March 2-5.
