Chocolate saves and there is no doubt about it after a Cambridge-based company announced the world’s first Beauty Chocolate, which reduces wrinkles and makes the skin look younger. Esthechoc will be presented next month at the Global Food Innovation Summit in London.
The miracle product is based on 70% cocoa dark chocolate and represents a combination of two of the most powerful antioxidants with pleotropic anti-aging properties – cocoa flavanols and marine carotenoid astaxanthin.
Just one piece (7.5 grams) of Esthechoc is enough to deliver flavanol activity equivalent to 100 grams of dark chocolate and astaxanthin to the level of 300 grams of wild Alaskan salmon, says inventor Dr Ivan Petyaev.
Esthechoc’s efficacy was demonstrated in clinical trials. After three to four weeks of daily intake by 50-60 year old volunteers, the Beauty Chocolate was able to not only suppress markers of sub-clinical inflammatory damage in their blood, but also reverse their age-related depression of micro-circulation and blood supply to such peripheral tissues as subcutaneous fat and skin. The result was a significant boost of oxygen delivery to these tissues and recovery of their respiration, which is the essential physiological need in controlling and supporting skin health.
And if all these properties were not enough, according to the studies, the chocolate does not contribute to calorie concerns and should be safe for people with diabetes.
Esthechoc will be launched on the market next month in the UK by a prestigious retailer, and in some countries across Europe by leading beauty companies.
Dr Ivan Petyaev is known for his interest in miracle foods. In 2012 he claimed Roquefort, Camembert and other molded cheeses have anti-inflammatory properties that fight cardiovascular disease and this might be the reason why French people enjoy good health even with diet high in saturated fat. Calling it “The French Paradox”, the researcher said Roquefort’s properties could be used in pharmaceutical and anti-aging products.
