If you want to spend your life around aristocrats, but you have no blue blood in your veins, you’ll be pleased to know that Queen Elizabeth needs a new royal Chauffeur. And the job is open to all candidates with a full UK driving license and “professional” driving experience.
The Royal Household is advertising for a new chauffeur to drive The Queen and members of the Royal Family, as well as their guests, around on their day-to-day business, according to Royal Central.
“The Royal Mews supplies all coaches and cars for State and official occasions and is the department which is responsible for caring for and training Her Majesty’s carriage horses, maintaining the coaches and keeping all working vehicles in outstanding condition.
As chauffeur you will work as part of a busy and supportive team tasked with driving members of the Royal Family, Household officials, guests and official visitors,” says the ad.
Other qualifications include “strong attention to detail” and a commitment to maintaining “high standards”. Also, the applicant will be responsible for maintaining the vehicles and keeping them in immaculate condition. He will need to be able to plan efficient driving routes too and, of course, to be able to “remain calm under pressure”.
Among the royal fleet of cars the lucky new Chauffeur will get to drive, there is The Queen’s 2002 claret state Bentley, which act as Her Majesty’s primary car for state and ceremonial occasions. Other personal vehicles of the Royal Family include a number of Range Rovers, Land Rovers and others, Queen’s personal fleet being distinguished through a dark green livery.
For 24,000 pounds per year (approximately 37,000 dollars), the Chauffeur will need to be available to work for any five days in a week for up to 48 hours in total. However, he will also be entitled to 33 days of holiday as well as being granted on-site accommodation (with a deduction from the salary) as well as the provision of meals. And the Royal Mews, where the Royal vehicles are kept, are actually attached as a part of Buckingham Palace.
Applications for the post close on 8th of March.
