For those of us who haven’t been lucky enough to score tickets at the “Hamlet” representation Benedict Cumberbatch is to play at London’s Barbican Theatre this year, there is still hope. On the 15th of October 2015, the play will be broadcast live from the Barbican stage in theatres all over the UK and also worldwide, as part of the National Theatre Live initiative.
The news that Cumberbatch had signed up to do Hamlet had us all buzzing last year, and when tickets were finally put on sale it was only predictable that they will sell out in a matter of minutes. The play, directed by Lyndsey Turner, will run August 5th through October 31st, those lucky enough to have bought tickets having the chance to see Cumberbatch take on the classic Shakespeare masterpiece.
It seems that 2015 is Cumberbatch’s year: from his Oscar Actor in Leading Role nomination for his part in The Imitation Game, to his marriage to Sophie Hunter and the news that they are expecting their first child, and between his highly anticipated Hamlet take and filming new Sherlock episodes (very excited about this one), the actor is busier than ever. And fans seem to not be getting enough of him! Tickets for the National Live Theatre screening will go on sale on the 16th of March.
