Adele Dazeem vs Golom Gazingo, or how Idina Menzel got her revenge

We all remember John Travolta’s mispronunciation of Idina Menzel’s name while presenting her at the 2014 Academy Awards. The mistake went viral short after and made the media buzz for quite a while. Face it, even today, while hearing “Let it go” for the millionth time, we can’t help but giggle thinking “the wickedly talented : Adele Dazeem”. We get it John, she doesn’t have the most common name, but still, try be more prepared next time you introduce an artist on stage.

This time round, it seems like Menzel was the one prepared; to get her revenge, that is. She took the stage to announce the nominees for Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards last night and called out her co-presenter: “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage my very dear friend, Golom Gazingo!”. As Travolta comes up next to her, stating “I deserved that”, it seems that the awkwardness of last year’s gaffe has worn out and the two are willing to leave the mistake behind them: “It’s not like it’s gonna follow me around the rest of my life”, Idina jokes.  By the way, this year’s award for Best Original Song, presented by the Dazeem/Gazingo Duo went out to John Legend and Common, for “Glory”.

Somehow though, Travolta doesn’t seem to get things right, at least when it comes to interacting with Idina Menzel. This year, while the Adele Dazeem/Golom Gazingo jokes were well-meant and entertaining, he sparked a bit of controversy for getting a little too touchy with his co-presenter. “Apparently I played with her chin too much”, the actor admitted during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, and then proceeded explaining the 2014 mistake was caused by him being starstruck by Goldie Hawn backstage prior to  introducing the “wickedly talented” Menzel on stage. About the incident, the singer admitted to being a little bothered, but it seems that with a bit of humour, any mistake can be turned to gold, as showcased by the pair during Sunday night’s interaction.
